I was under the impression that if she had an "N" in the body code then it wasn't a sandman?

What Byron meant there was that if there's one plate missing then it may have been lost when a body swap was happening.

The best way to tell the difference between the 2 bodys is the holes for the side trims which a Kingswood should have where a base model won't. In order to check that they haven't been welded up just remove the interior panels in the tray and look inside at the quarters.

Correct, unless we are talking about HJ Sandman utes, which were available (early on) which had an N (meaning Kingswood),

Or HQ (these have M or N on the VIN plate) but not the body plate which I just realised you meant!

Just want to clarify something as I've read all posts a couple of times and may have missed something. Byron, have you confirmed it as an XU4?
I read this quote from you above as "It may be a Sandman but with a missing plate it will never be worth Sandman dollars". (which I agree with 100%) I haven't seen anything suggesting that the van is an XU4 rather than a XX7, or have I just missed it?

I originally assumed it was a HZ Sandman and hence 1977 plated to be 1950kg. I got the ID via PM and it turned out to be 1978 hence it has to be a V8 XU4 (Sandman_79 appears to have posted a reply to my PM in this thread as my inbox was chockers). My point about a possible rebody is because that is heaps more likely than an XU4 + B47. I reckon the body plate isn't there because it said M15 or 2-tone (or M40 and whomever took it didn't know that M40 doesn't preclude a.Sandman).

You might struggle to spot it inside the quarters as I don't think there are holes on the ends of the quarter strips. Only on the ends of the door strips, front of guards and on the ends of the tailgate strip. There may be some minor discolouration inside the quarters where the weld studs would be fitted to a Kingswood but they'd be covered in body dip and electrostatic red primer.

my HZ kinga ute has the body mold holes at the back of the rear 1/4's. the centres on each trim piece have the weld on tabs that need little plastic clips... all now ground off

Holes would make sense if the origenal rivets were removed or rusted away. The aftermarket ones are drilled then screwed or riveted...

Also noticed on the prem the holes are everywhere and the only spots with the nuts are where they are easily accessible on the doors and possibly the back edge of the guards.

They are the ones that you can get to the back of through the curved plate that you access the tail-lights through? Forgot about them. It s the front of that mould I think has no screw from behind on HJ-HZ Kingswood ute and HX-HZ van. Mook, HZ Kingswood SL and Premier are different, HZ Kingswood van and ute use HJ-HX strips that don't use many holes.
