VERY unusual and rare HZ 1-tonner

This must be a special order car. Meadow Heights, VIC, $1750 currently. If you ever wanted an unusual build spec 1-tonner this is it.

Factory air and steer MANUAL HZ 1-tonner, hence it has a 3.36:1 rear axle with a manual. Virtually unheard of in a tonner, only ever seen 3.36 with M40 or M41. You couldn't get air with 3.55 diff hence why it'll have the 3.36.

PLUS, look at the trim line. 1163, Inca Gold!

Surely if you could order an Inca Gold HZ tonner you could order a 3 seater sandman...

No chance. Special order colours were easy. The most distinguishing feature of a Sandman after its stripes was the fact it was basically a GTS from the seats foreward, and commercial from there back. If it didn't have buckets and console it wasn't a Sandman, simple as that. Same as you couldn't order a bench seat GTS. A dealer could do it for you of course, but it'd still be complianced as a bucket seat car!

Completely in related, but when would scuff plate extensions be optioned?

Yeah I know... Just stirring, but you would think if they could custom paint a car from the previous body style as a custom thing. That they would be happy to do anything for a sale. Even a bench seat instead of two buckets..

Custom paint is just $, and was available to special customers. The act of putting a bench seat in a package that came with buckets standard would mean it was no longer that package anymore, so could not be sold as a Sandman. Remember Taily's story about his Grandfather's HJ Kingswood ute, all he wanted was a T-bar HJ ute but it was not possible, so a dealer had to get an L31, M41 HJ Kingswood Sandman ute, change the walkoff front over with another V8 Kingswood of some description (I say V8 by the radiator in the car now), repaint over all the rest of the blackouts and fit accessory side moulds to the doors and quarters. You'd think it would be easier to just make a standard Kingswood ute a T-bar, but it was not possible. Bench in a GTS or Sandman would be exactly the same, ie impossible.

Remember also, HZ commercials past 11/78 except Sandman and Kingswood were only available in 4 x solid colours. So this is a triple special: not one of those 4 x colours, metallic and then a non A632 colour chart colour!
