I couldn't help myself.
I pulled one of the "racing" lifters apart.
Again "R" type is at the front.
Looks like a standard replacement lifter to me.

Maybe they just put the wrong part number on the invoice???
The soft initial compression could have just been the lifters not bleeding completely when they were left submerged in the oil.
