Hey all. I need some help re: HZ Sandman ute identification

Today I purchased a ute from the wreckers because well, I needed a ute for moving stuff and I was intrigued by the bench seat which appears to be a molded type bucket seat conforming to a bench on the base but has individual backs to adjust and also a centre console that folds back so it can be a 3 seater.

Anyhoo, to cut a long story short, it has the twin headlights (originally I thought from a statesman) and it has the salisbury diff (roadworthy insp.) I was looking for seat covers for these bench seats and came across this site re: sandmans.

I went and checked all the plates on the vehicle and this is what I have:-

    Compliance Plate:
It has a seating Capacity of 3
    Manufactured 10/79
    GVM- 2155 kg
    CHZ- 69557A

The Vehicle Identification Plate is: 8M80LHH443833Z

    Body Identification Plate:
    Model: HZ8WM80
    Body No: 443833B
    Trim: 1928 63V
    Paint 568 30519
    Eng: L20 Trans: M15 RRAxle GV7

My friend also has a HZ in the shed, so we went and checked on it as well. Here is what we have of his.

    Compliance Plate:
It has a seating Capacity of 3
    Manufactured 08/79
    GVM- 2155 kg
    CHZ- 65009A

The Vehicle Identification Plate is: 3M80LJL459923Z

    Body Identification Plate:
    Model: HZ8WM80
    Body No: 459923-A
    Trim: 1930-67C
    Paint 568 30521
    Eng: L20 Trans: M15 RRAxle GV7

Are either of these vehicles a Sandman? I'm somewhat confused as I don't see any listing anywhere that has an L20 recommendation, nor should there be 3 seats?

    Thanks heaps.

P.S. I have taken photos of all the Plates across both vehicles and I'll upload them if needed, but not now... it nearly 3am. Later hopefully

Definately no to both..... Apart from being 3 seaters the factory 3 speed m15 gearbox also rules them out.... No sandman ever came out with a 3 speed manual transmission..... All were either 4 speed manual or auto gearboxes

First ute, the VIN and BODY tags belong together, but the ADR plate that was originally with them would have read 3/78 and a chassis number of approx BHZ093xxB. This may still be on the rails, or the rails may belong to the body and the other two plates are not original. Does the ADR plate state "coupe utility"? In any case neither ADR or the other plates belong to a Sandman. Put up a photo of this car's plates and i'll check them out.

Second ute's plates all belong together, and not a Sandman as Al says.

Here are the plates from the first car, also the seat... which I'm hoping someone might be able to tell me whether I can get a car seat cover for these... perhaps they're custom made?

Seat is probably from a Fowlcan ute or van eg XG or XH. Someone here may know better. Those ID plates do not belong together, but I can tell you both the Brisbane built ute that the wnite plates came from and the Adelaide built ute the ADR plate came from were 3.3L 6cyl examples. The Adelaide one is most likely originally an auto (column shift), but it could also have been a 3spd or 4spd manual. None of the rivets are original.

What number is on the chassis rails? CHZ69557A or BHZ093xxB ?

You need to confirm first they are Falcon, I was taking a best guess.

Yes I do, I shall be back up next week to hopefully pick it up. It has a few more things that need to get done before registration.

I believe from what the wreckers have told me, that the benchseat is out of an ED Falcon Ute. Whomever did the changeover, they did it really well. No extra holes in the floor plate. Perhaps drilled new screw holes in the tracks of the benchseat replacement so it screws straight in. After doing a google search on these, I found an expired sale of one on ebay. Exactly the same.

Thanks all. I may not have a Sandman, but I am very happy with my car. Will post some pics of it next week.
