    Maybe another sandman?

Ok im buying this ute body for parts and checked the tags on it.
They point towards it being a hq sandman kingswood.
    2 seating
    308
    4 speed
    Salamanca red
    Built 7/74
But the trim code has throw me abit. Instead of being 30B, its 30E.
Its this different for the kingswoods?

Yes. 1974 HQ Belmont with buckets used mainly B trim. Kingswood vinyl were mainly E trim for both bench and buckets.
Can you send me the rest of the ID? I'll guide you through picking it as a Sandman or not.

If it is the original body to the tags and has the seat separator bracket at the back between the seats then it has to be a Sandman. You could get a column shift car with the same bracket in a HQ Kingswood ute and it would be for a seat separator, but if the car has a 4spd it was deleted unless it was for use with a console, which means Sandman. Since this has one and it is a 4spd it has to be a Sandman.

The ute has the 308 with a t400 in it but the bloke wants the chassis and running gear out of it for a hot rod project.
If the chassis is original to the body ill see if he wants to swap chassis cos I have a spare but where do I stand with the engine?
Should I see if I can make a deal with him to leave the engine in it for something else or can I get away with another engine of a similar date?

If the chassis matches the tags make sure it stays with the car. Get the engine number and i'll tell you if original.

Are you sure it is EHQ288? Not EHQ268?

Also can you get the number off the firewall? If the chassis number is EHQ28875S it'll be close to 28xxxS, possibly 29xxxS.

Yer the chassis number is definately EHQ288. I have to double check these things because there is a nice layer of paint over the tags.
Ill head out to the ute tomorrow and get the body and chassis numbers, just tell me where to look?
