Firewall number (Pagewood tracking number) is on the firewall up near the LH windscreeen washer squirter. Looks just like a HK-HG chassis number. Chassis number is on the top of the rail down near the steering box.

number on the chassis is V840656P, this doesnt look right because its stamped upside down compared to other chassis numbers iv seen.
engine number is QT 626282. if it is the original engine to the plates i will swap him the bottom end out of my panelvan, i went back over it and found that the engine belongs to a late hz so its no big deal if i swap it out. i also hav a spare 308 block with the numbers QT 688886, could someone please shed abit of light on what it could possibly be out of?
number stamped on the firewall of the ute is 27704 S.

That appears to be a Victoria Police issued number.

The body tag doesn't look right to me, it looks to read 804XX where it should read 80 WN 80 or 80WM80

The trim code is 30E which is a Monaro code for black vinyl, I think the body tag is off a GTS 4 Door Monaro

Just had another look at my cheat sheets, it could also be a V8 Kingswood sedan tag

^^Definitely a Vic Police number, issued in 1984. So it may or may not be the original chassis but makes no difference, let him keep it or keep it yourself.

QT626282 is from an approx 3/75 HJ Holden.
QT688886 is from an approx 11/75 HJ Holden.

So neither are original to the plates.

So that HQ ute is a fantastic car to build yourself a street car out of. If it was me i'd paint it up original and run an injected 304 and 4L60. Run GTS rims etc, but fit HJ-HZ seats and leave the dash. Fit HZ rails to make it drive and steer better, if you can keep the rails that are in it even better, put the VP number on the HZ rails. If you are going to have a modified ute in some form you have the perfect starting point, a 308 HQ Kingswood Sandman of which there is no point doing an original resto as she's lost here original chassis number and engine.

The ute will be going back to being a hq as I have another hq ute with a few gts bits but the body on it has rust everywhere so itll be good to swap them round. The hz parts that are on the ute now will be sold or ill keep in the back of the shed.
Just wondering if I ever did come across an engine with the same build dates would it be worth putting that into the sandman even if it isnt original to the panelvan but just to have the same build dates?

I wouldn't bother. Unless it is the original engine you might as well use whatever you can find. Date code matching a block to the car is a crock and a waste of time and money. If it isn't original anything else is as good! You'd be much better off investing in an NT prefix block, but remember the original rails arent there anymore so immediately drop a huge chunk of potential value. If you just make a nice car out of it people will see the fact it was originally a Sandman as a bonus, rather than say if you did it as original as you can and have them see the non original rails and engine as a big negative.

Thanks hk. Just bouncing ideas around.
The engine idea was mainly for the sandman panelvan I got as the rails are original to the body on it, i know how unlikely it is that ill find anything close to the build date but I got access to a few 308s. Was gonna grab the numbers off them an try my luck.
I know the ute will never be what it used to be, im sure there will be people that can apreciate it for what it is now, even if its not original.
