all those prices sound correct , there's almost never an easy way out if you want to do the right job.
i got quoted $3k for paint by one and $5k from another. just shop around ?

After just not long ago finishing a bare metal job on my van and I'm a painter I would not do another one for under 15000 let me tell you. They are a bloody Huge car and I wish I kept track of how many hours it took me , it was probably something like 500 hours so times that by $50 bucks an hour is $25000 ha ha.
I picked a hq Monaro to do up this time , it feels like its half the size
I think my paint job cost approximately $7000 but thats after all the body was prepped, repairs, high fill, fitting panels on and off to make sure lines etc were right, $60 an hour adds up and I got a discount for the whole job by paying cash, total job probably turned out double what I was expecting big learning curve, will be doing more or the prep work on the next van.
Holy crapola! I painted an HZ last year
- Did the panel and rust repairs myself with a mate $300 in paid labour, paper, mig gas and filler etc
- Spot primed and puttied repairs $50
-Buzzed the body with 240grit
- Booth hire $120
-Painter $180
- 8L of cheap 2k white $220
- Did the blackouts at home $50
So it was $1000 in materials and labour. Didnt come out perfect but ive seen far worse for $5000
my mate owns a panel shop. he re painted some other shops abortion recently that the fella had spent 100K on panel and paint. The same mate did rust repairs, puttied, blocked, painted and buffed his HX kinga in a weekend. Could easily win some trophies if he showed it.
