Keep an eye on Ebay, just buy a 6cyl M20, You'll have to replace most of the bits that are different anyway. To turn a 6cyl M20 into an XU-1 ratio V8 box you just have to change input shaft and cluster, and these are both normally shagged anyway. The only other difference is the cover over the input shaft (length), worth about $75 max. The only reason you might splash out a bit more for a V8 box is if it has a bellhousing and flywheel with it.

Also keep an eye at swap meets, but don't pay more than $75-$100 for any box unless it has bellhousing, good shifter, clutch mech, flywheel etc with it as the boxes are nearlly always shagged, and you are only buying a case, possibly a good main shaft and if you are lucky a good reverse idler, a selector or two and a good 3rd gear.
