    WB Blue 202 Problems... Help!!!

As you know, I have finally got my WB ute registered and on the road. The standard Varijet carby on it is, lets face it, a peice of crap!!!
So over the long weekend my brother and I did a custom conversion to fit a 34ADM Weber (XF Falcon) carby to it.
After putting a carby kit in the Weber, we fitted it up to the car, got it started and warm and adjusted the idle screw. Got it to idle smooth as at 750rpm! Perfect!!
It blew a little smoke, black intially and then a lighter whitish/black once it started running.. :/ It did not blow smoke like this before we removed the Varijet.
Then came time to adjust the choke (has to be done while stone cold..) We let it get cold, adjusted the choke butterfly and then tried to start it. It wound over for 15-20secs and then started to fire, only just started and then it died when giving it some revs :/

We've tried everything, adjusted the choke butterfly in every position, the fast idle adjustment in every position and still no change. :/

But in the process of trying to get it to work, its developed a misfire, quite a big one at that. :/

I refitted the standard Varijet carby, started easier, but still has the misfire, and still is blowing the smoke, but the smoke is more consistant/got worse the longer it has run...
I've removed all the spark plugs, and none seem ''wet'' from too much fuel (black smoke shows running too rich..) and they all had the normal amount of carbon on them.
I put the plugs back in, and then swapped over the ignition leads with a spare set I have. Started much easier, but still had the misfire and smoke. :/

I've got no ideas what to do now, and am at the point where I just want to kill it with a sledgehammer!
I kind of need it on the road for getting to and from work etc. but I can't find the problem :/

    Anyone have any idea's???
    Cheers,
    Matt

Cheers for the advice mate, but I'm not interested in spending more money on this 6cyl...

I just want to get it running good so it will last me the next year until I get my full licence and then I'll have a 308 for the ute
    Cheers,
    Matt

Hmmn, could be an intake manifold leak? That would do it, I reckon, how hard did it get leaned on during the carby changes? Some suggest testing this by using an oil can to place a bead of oil around the manifold gasket to watch for air bubbles, but I never found that worked well, and you cant see the bottom half of the intake manifold anyway. If you have a manifold vac guage you can diagnose it, but if not, check all nuts to the head are good and tight for starters.
Consider replaceing the manifold gasket, if you do so, make sure to totally clean the mounting surfaces on both manifolds and the head to schmicko with a scrape, then a handheld grindstone before fitting the new gasket. (Hope I am not patronising anyone here, either you know or you dont!).

If not intake manifold, then pehaps you've inadvertantly caused something else to change whilst fitting, refitting the carbs, but what... its always the question, did someone push on something too hard, not do something up right, are all the varijet hoses back in their original positions..etc

Maybe firstly, start from scratch, check electical basics; alternator connections, ground connections, coil connections; then basic fuel system, pump, hoses etc, then the carby jets. A quite common thing to happen is for a grain sized bit of rubber to come off the inside of the fuel line when refitting the carb, getting into the works and then blocking a jet that was previously working fine. If no luck, have a look at the manifold gasket, its another 10 -16 bucks.

Oh and P.S. hitting it with a sledge hammer probably will not help, sledge hammer usually bounces back off and breaks left shoulder blade.... engine behaves the same. LOL lol.
    Cheers, Dave.
