Found this one this morning on evilbay for those who like the black vans.
    Interesting description about it.

    HQ Kingswood Sandman ute.

L31, M40, GV3 and LSD. Unfortunately missing air and steer.

But it is 2214 - Tuxedo black, with black (30E) trim.

    Wow.

Unfortunately a black auto HQ Sandman is probably the hardest of all Sandmans to pick, so this one might take some time. Has all the Sandman bits on it supposedly.

Just curious, do you have many blacks HQ Sandmans recorded? If its a ridgey didge sandy, are you grabbing it? Best of luck

This is the sum total of black HQ commercials full stop. The next one I have is a 10/75 HJ van. Tuxedo Black was not a normal HQ Holden colour. It may have been a HQ Statesman colour in 1974, I don't have that colour chart. It was certainly used on HQ eg for upper body stripes/paintouts on GTS, but these were not applied in the paint area (exterior paint is in the Body Plant). There was a extra gun in the body plant paint booth for special paint, and this would be an example of that.

As per normal you could do a CTV (colour/trim variation) using the special instructions section of the order form to get a special colour, but it took a special customer or special dealer to get it through. This one was sold by Southern Motors (Bob Jane) so there's your special dealer. Tuxedo would have also been used on other specials eg multi-tone taxis, hearses or other funeral cars etc.

I'd buy it in a flash, but someone else has got hold of it, that is how I know of it. Extra effort will have to go into determining if this is a Sandman or not, as stated originally a black, auto HQ Kingswood Sandman ute would be the hardest of all to verify.

Pretty exciting news....wonder how many other 'special order' HQ Sandman are out there!!! Any photos Byron?

What was the give away for it being a Sandy?

I'll let you think about it. Think black HQ auto. What is the one single unchangeable thing that will be different between the exact same cars in a Kingswood and a Kingswood XX7? So not bolt in like wheel winch cup, harness, speedo etc.

If its a HQ Sandman the auto would be a floor mounted variaity and have the seat sep mount. The dash wouldnt have had the column auto dial incorporated. The steering column and base plate blanks would also not be for the column auto and linkages.

Is there any other distingushing things on the shell for supporting the column auto linkages that would be missing?
