This is correct, the letter in the VIN refers to the model year, in this case the model year is 1978 but it started in 1977. Confusing if you're unused to the way car manufacturers operate.

Dick explained the 9/77 being a 1978 model. GMH year started 1st Sept.
If it was an XU4 it'd have 19V trim.

No, but all HX-HZ Holden and Belmont with black trim are except Sandman which has 18V if black specified.

I had a '77 HZ and it had a "proper" GTS horn button. But I didn't know it's full history and she had a few '80's mods so I'm not sure.
I'm sure others around here will set it straight or offer an opinion.
