This is correct, the letter in the VIN refers to the model year, in this case the model year is 1978 but it started in 1977. Confusing if you're unused to the way car manufacturers operate.Originally Posted by jim mc

If it was an XU4 it'd have 19V trim.

No, but all HX-HZ Holden and Belmont with black trim are except Sandman which has 18V if black specified.
So 18V trim is possible Sandman and 19V trim is not a Sandman ?
To help out my HJ Sandy has 19V Black and my HX Sandy has 18V Slate Black,also have a sneeky peak at the mysandman home page,scroll down to "sandman trim interior" Blocker + CO did this piece about a mounth ago.hope this helps...
In HJ 19V could be a Sandman, in HX HZ 18V is a Sandman but 19V is not. 19V is a base model trim, in the HX and HZ the Sandman was built from the base model but had Kingswood level trim, 18V is Slate which is not a straight black but looks mouldy and it is a Kingswood trim.

On a HX-Z Holden ute or van 18V is definite Sandman unless car was built for sale in NZ. 19V is definitely not a Sandman on the same vehicles.
