Hi all!!
Ive heard somewhere that removing the standard Fan and replacing it with a thermo fan or 2 can increase the power output of your engine and reduce fuel consumption!!
Any one know if this is true or not??
Cheers.

Yep, it will save power as the fan takes a fair amount of power to drive. Maybe a couple of horse power.
A viscous fan will help to a point as they only drive sometimes.
I think on something like a Cummins which runs a fan as big as the bonnet on a holden it makes more of a difference. They drag the engine down by about 350 rpm which is a heap on a motor that only revs to 2000 rpm.
The biggest problem i found was that the fans didn't actually cool the radiator down, they keep it more of a constant temperature.
This is why i much prefer the viscus style.

I fitted twin thermo fan's to my 4.2 litre sandman ute,and they worked fine. I used it on all types of road's and all weather condition's and never had a drama. I had air conditioning and with the 7 blade fan removed, it was heap's quieter.

Where did your temp gauge sit Robbo?
Mine was 1/2 temp all the time, but since putting the viscus back on it's usually around 1/3.
I also found that when i turned the A/C on (in traffic) it got to 3/4.

My only advice is:
If your temp is good now why change and take the risk.
I have a standard fan and drove my van on Black Saturday in 47 degrees for an hour in normal city traffic and still did not overheat. No way I am changing anything to do with the cooling system.
