Cheers sjc315, I never thought of trying them. I'll start ringing around (probably not the best time of year to do it) but at least try to start the ball rolling, it can't have gone too far in the last 15 years (fingers crossed)![]()

"All correspondence must bear these numbers"
G'Day everyone - i am posting a bit in the reverse of the idea of this thread - i have an original 308 from my old Sandman that i sold about ten years ago. (for the second time, after i sold it - then bought it back again - i dare say i would buy it back again, always regret selling it!!!)
I still have the original 308 block, and i am assuming it is worth far more in the old car to match up all the numbers than it is sitting in my yard!
It is a 308 from an Mint Jelup HJ Sandman van i sold in Sydney back in May of 2004 to a middle aged bloke who i think was from the Kempsey area?
I have seen pictures of the van on a few forums so i am pretty sure it is still getting around, i sold it with factory rear windows, however i am pretty sure these were welded over by the new owner, and maybe it had a front air dam from a HX/HZ added - maybe!
Anyone who thinks they know the new owner could PM me details and ill if they want it i could arrange for them to pick the block up.
Cheers,![]()

this is the van
Scored a 308 yesterday,HT 8922 which states its a SLR 5000 engine.the engine is virgin bore and has been greased up and shelved for over 20 years, also scored the crank all machined and greased,a set of L34 spec heads all rebuilt and greased,a rocket performance cam still boxed,a 4 barrel manifold, and twin point mallory dizzy,a set of group A rods brand new wrapped up in newspaper .the newspaper dates are feb 1996 all for $200.00 off an old retired engine rebuilder to say I'm happy is an understatement.
Someone may be looking for that exact engine as it may be out of their car. Otherwise it is just another 308 block, but grear score and excellent value for money!

Just saw this on ebay 308 10/74 HQ or early HJ.
With a built date of 3/10/1974 is is highly unlikely to have ever made it into a HQ. Good HJ 308 for sure.
It is 3rd September '74 so whilst it was cast during very late HQ production it will be from an October complianced (or very late Sept at the outside) HJ. QT576xxx engines appear to be in HJ's at all assembly plants.
