    1. Original dealers sales receipt.
    2. It will be listed in your original service warranty maintenance book that sits with your owners manual. Having these makes your Sandman way more valuable than those that don't.
    3. Your engine block is date coded see http://mysandman.com.au/index.php/mo...-dates-a-codes
    4. Production run numbers. Although without the inside information you will not be able to link these.

WAY MORE might be a bit strong. I'd use the word "marginally" or "potentially".

Full documentation cars will always be worth way more today and into the future. I'll stand by that statement. Perhaps not to everybody, but serious collectors will find these absolutely more desirable and will be prepared to pay a good premium for them. Just the same as it is for XU-1's, A9X, Monaro's, GT's and the like or any collectible model.

Seems to me that original Sandman's with books and real service history are thin on the ground.

Both our Red van, and Malachite van have their manuals, complete with sales certificate, in their plastic wallet....funnily they have their first service done at the dealer as its free, then from other places, or they don't fill out the manual. Thinking back Rodney always did grease and oil changes on our holdens in the day....and when things went wrong he fixed them then...

I looked at a pretty rough looking but tidy bodied HZ 4.2 4spd Kingswood ute today, driving and registered. It has a very early HJ 4.2 or late HQ 253 engine in it if you are looking for a number close to this, or even if this is your original engine. QR570632. Ute is just over $3,000 but if you badly wanted this engine you could do a swap and pass the ute on. This engine would suit a 9/74 HQ or HJ.

because alot of these vehicles were put on Gas, i have quite often seen the original engine number engraved onto the LPG intallation certification tag....
not that its 100% proof, but when its close to what its supposed to be, you would have to assume it was the right one.
