Nice example of the top spec HZ Holden available, and not that expensive compared to a 5.0L Sandman or GTS would be in the same condition.

In Truganina VIC, $20k.

Has LPG but if it is done right it could be removed without any repairs required (just a few hoels left behind).

Has some nice options: air and steer, buckets, console shift, L31. Not sure if the wire wheels are original but they were optional. Has the dealer fitted screws to the ends of the armrests, twin exhaust might be original too.

Has a few non original things other than the LPG and respray, but none too bad: thermos, air horns, Holley, HQ Deville steering wheel, cutout for CD player (good Prem fascia will be easy to find, and new steering wheels are like $60 on Ebay), aftermarket guage (probably LPG). I doubt you'd buy a good complete roughy 5.0L with good body HZ Premier for mcuh under $8k, and get it to this condition for say an agreed $17k purchase price.

To be fair to Gene I never said that. I said the seller would be asking more! Even though heaps more HQ's were made, there seems to be a lot less of them left in really good condition, which is probably one of the 2 or 3 reasons why people seem to pay more for them. In my opinion there is no doubt the HZ sedan is a better car, but the HQ sedan is a way cooler car. HZ drives better (by huge amounts), has better interior, better seat belts and on the Premier the HZ has way better options available. HQ just looks cooler, and today is rarer hence more valuable. Plus less pollution stuff.

My choice for 2 x cars side by side in the same condition and the same price - i'd choose the HQ. But that HZ is a better buy than any HQ you'll find for that price. I paid around $9k for my HJ Premier, and at that price even a few years ago when I got it for $9k a 308 HQ Prem would have been a basketcase for that money. Prem probably owes me $10k-$10.5k now and it is better than that HZ so i'm happy!
