All this talk does make me want to build my own interpretation Sandman ute as i've stated before:

HJ body and tags, HZ chassis and suspension, HQ front panels, HZ instruments, HX trim combination and injected 304 with 4L60E transmission. All painted up looking exactly like a HQ Sandman, possibly with 15x7 rims and lower it an inch at the front.
Nice byron but you forgot to tell us what colour?

That's my favourite guide coat colour! The more I use and waste as a guide the less cars get hurt by being painted in it!

Dunno. Sable, Saffron, Suburst maybe. Probably Orchid, I like the ute that was used on Pack to the Rafters, it was Orchid I think.

So probably less than a quarter of HQ Sandmans had the vents. Utes didn't and roughly half of the vans. So most of HQ are basically the same as HJ-HZ from say the gearshift hole back, ignoring badges/stripes, soft trim and seatbelts.

Does this make a vented Sandman even rarer and thus more desirable?

No that would make HJ-HZ the same as Hq from the gearshift hole back
