Only if someone is anal to me 2 pack is a lot easier
Painted my sons HX replica in 2pack Valencia orange and was told when I had the stripes installed that the colour was markedly different to the original colour the van was originally blue so couldn't compare it. Current van was in primer when I bought it so cant compare the original colour on this one either
ask anyone who has used 2k on a van... it just doesn't look right. too peely and too shiny.
no doubt 2k is a far superior product and easier to work with but not ideal for a proper nut and bolt resto

i would go Acrylic, it ages better...
yes the 2 Pak doesn't chip as easy and there are some additives now which eliminate the orange peel effect of 2 Pak, but it looks like a shiny lolly.
i like the flatter acrylic better
use the 2 pak primer filler / puttys though

I have used both, acrylic is much easier to fix mistakes, 2pack does look too shiny and have too much orange peel, my next paint job will be clear over base which is a single pack base/colour coat with 2pack clear over the top which will then be colour sanded and polished before it cures too hard. Usually within 1 to 2 days after spraying. Acrylic can be left for quite a while after painting before colour sanding and polishing.

they recommend letting acrylic sit for 12 months on the car before cutting + buffing, or that used to be the rule..new products may be on the market now..

I asked around when doing my HZ van up and basically panel shop dont want to paint acryllic these days so I went with the 2 pak looks good but I agree it dont look right , looks like its been put on with a shovel was how someone explained it to me. Have also heard people say the same about XU1 etc being painted in 2pak how they lose their lines etc. I have a HQ XX7 for resto next and it will be painted acryllic period correct and I prefer the flatter finish. Unless its a daily driver left out in the weather etc I would be going acryllic.
If you are spraying the car yourself, in your shed/garage then acrylic is the only way to go. Spraying 2pack in a domestic setting is illegal and potentially deadly. You really need a proper spray booth with air fed respirator to ensure you don't breathe the isocyanates in 2pack. You can get away with spraying acrylic in your shed without all the gear, it can make you sick and get you high but usually won't kill you like 2pack will. Even if you have a ventilation system set up to take the fumes out of your shed, you may be still endangering neighbors, children and pets.

Thanks for the responses. I thought acrylic would be the way to go but as you say my painter is recommending 2 pack. I would like to go as original as possible so think I'll go with the acrylic. Sons van looks good in the 2 pack but it is very shiny and doesn't look right for the original resto i'm after. Cheers
