Any engine swap in NSW must match the pollution requirements of the year of engine or car manufacture.

I have a '79 308 in an '85 Jaguar and it had to go 100% LPG because the engine didn't meet the '85 ADR's.

Would I be better chasing a Hj block so the turbo 400 bolts straight up?, would it have to be a pre 1/75 block or any Hj would be ok? Cheers

They won't have a clue if you use a hj, x or z block. They all use the same engine number prefix. They don't look at clock cast dates.

You could have used a black 5 litre block.

TH400 will bolt up to any VN-VSIII block. But yes you are better off with a red 308 block, just try to get one cast 1976 or earlier to be on the safe side. Has to be a TH pattern block though, manual red 308 blocks won't work with a TH400. Note that the cast date on VR-early VS blocks appear the same as mid 1970's blocks.....enough said.

Byron could you explain exactly why a vt roller block is a problem for adr27 holdens, as i were getting ready to build one for the HJ GTS/4, but use vl brock heads and get a early roller cam from herberts usa

It is a problem for pre ADR27, ADR27 or ADR27A,B,C etc as you have to comply with the emissions requirements for a VSIII/VT, which means standard EFI top end, ECU, memcal, cats etc etc. You have to use the whole VSIII/VT engine, complete with ULP fiuller neck etc. No mods, no cam change, no memcal change etc.

I see, so after its decked and lost its numbers, and early topend fitted, is there any other external features that give it away, apart from 308 on the side of the block.
