    i have a twin carb X2 set up, but the carbys are not a matching pair and missing some bits...so its just a manfold and two unknown strommy carbs really...
    they come up on ebay, the air cleaner is probably worth more that the carb and manifold for X2, and thats what will make the FE good under bonnet

    All EH's with 179 had a HP cast block and forged crankshaft - HP simply meant 179, same as HP meant 308 on early 308. All red 6's up until early 1967 has a forged crankshaft.     Bigger fuel tank.

    Basically the A9X of EH! ie a homolgation for better brakes, better diff and heavier duty gearbox. But not a pefromance engine as such like the 196S HR or LH L34. Good enough to get 2nd outright at Bathust 1963 though. Almost everything on the EH became standard production on 179 manual EH's.

    Well thanx for the feed back but has anyone got one for sale? What was the set up on a hr 4 speed then? Eg carb set up?

    Seen a x2 set up on a hr over the weekend and I loved the look of it , are they good preformers.?

    I had twin strombergs on an LJ with a (from memory, it was 10 or so years ago now) redline manifold. Mild motor with xu-1 headers and 2.5in exhaust with 2 hotdogs, no mufflers. Went pretty well.

    The 186S carby was a WW2 Twin Barrel Stromberg very similar carby as was used on the 253 V8. These were available on the 186S Monaro's etc.

    The S4 was basically a carefully blueprinted standard 179, hence the 5-7 (or so) extra horsepower. Don't ask me why I remember this but have a feeling the S4 was realeased with a more comprehensive tool kit in it for the Production Car racing rules of the time. Something about having to be able to fix the car with only the tools supplied by the manufacturer in the vehicle when sold.
