engine number qr 34629

Hi All
Not that familiar with the engine number arrangements and if it really matters when restoring a sandman.
Looking at pulling the running gear out of hz ute, has a red 253 eng NO QR34629 M40 trans GU4 diff
Just wondering what era this eng actually is from. Im assuming it would not be the original from this ute and wether it would be suitable with these numbers to suit a hj or hx authentic era sandman.
What model trans is m40 and would this running gear suit a sandman also.

M40 is trimatic and it would suit a sandman

Just look for the combination of engine prefix - QR, QT, 11QT plus the cast date code... This will give you a good indication as to range of cars it could have come out of for the month / year it was made

And if the original engine is not in the car it doesnt matter one iota when restoring a sandman or any other car for that matter whether or not you put in a. Period correct block....

All 253's are Holden/Tri-Matic pattern.

i have a 253 suit HZ, block was cast on 23rd august 1977

My 9/71 LS had engine no. QR53260 so this one probably came from an early August 71 HQ
