Lets face it, most were just workhorse pigs and that was their market.
A few of us see things differently and treat these as cherished items not to be used for carting rubbish, tools and dirt bikes.

Ultimately this is the market the Sandman was targeted at. But in reality they were just a workhorse with stripes.
Some commercials are better suited to remaining dirt pigs as they hold little interest as anything else and I'm not sure a metallic paint job made any difference.
According to the ebay ad, seems it's life ended as a work pig.

I'm sure the B06 pack would of been desirable for customers who wanted the cab/chassis for piggy back vans etc. With a large cage and covered they have far more payload space for deliveries than a van when required.

Not all would of been sold to farmers, concreters and other tradies....

None of that really has much relevance in its rarity though.
I can't see too many cab-chassis being cherished today, perhaps only a true Survivor in L31 M41 combination someone might like to keep in original condition. I used to always have tonners as they were easier to keep alive (less rust prone) and better to tow with as the longer wheelbase helped. But today I can't see the point, a VY-VZ V8 tonner is a far more comfortable car.

Your right, it's probably a "rare" combination and thus a rare car. But rare vs desirability is not the same thing.

Totally agree. I never said it was desirable, just a rare build. I think it is the only tonner I can recall in original 567 paint. Nowadays odd or rare stuff like that excites me more than plain old vanilla stuff that is definitely more sought after but once you've seen hundreds of the same thing it tends to lose its excitement factor.

Strange how every one has forgotten the hottest street cars of the 80's. Not vans or utes. If you drove round Sydney the hottest street cars were Holden one tonners working as tow trucks. Built fast to get to the accidents first.
