That's what car thieves do, not car restorers. Cut the chassis number out and swap the one that matches the tags, swap the tags and wow, now we have a XX7 van.
Restorers would do that..... I would do that if I found a stripped out Sandman sitting in a paddock with nothing left but a chassis, rusted out shell and tags. Find a good shell, put it on the chassis and attach the tags that go with the chassis and find all the parts needed to restore it.

30 yrs ago a body shell was a spare part from GMH and it was perfectly legal to swap out a damaged shell.... It is only because of car theft and re-birthing that it is now illegal across the board..... A shame really as I see nothing wrong with it if done legitimately and correctly... People get too anal about cars and the crap about the body being the "soul" of the car... The ID of the car is the chassis and tags.... Everything else is just parts.
