I'd suggest the vehicles were dealer ordered with no radio and they have been fitted to customers requirements at the sales point.
    Or even the dealers liking.

I was wondering why a dealer would go to the trouble of puting it on the roof puting a factory radio in the dash when it would be more logical to be done at the factory, GMH didn't even trust the dealer to put the decal on on the HX model.

Dunno?, but Holden will 100% have a part number for it if they installed them. It is not in the HJ or HX parts manuals. Possibly it is in the accessories brochure? I can't access mine at the moment. Even the sales brochures I have here don't show any signs of antenna's fitted (including actual photos of Seawitch etc).

I think this would be great for anyone whom wants a Sandman you might buy it for $8.500 (least then you have one)

Reckon you might be right. My HZ van has a roof aerial and a clean holeless left guard. The hole in the roof isn't a factory stamped hole either. It's done with a drill.

I know of dealers that would do a custom fit on new cars so they would know when they spotted them on the street or trade in if it was originally sold by them. All at a glance.
I quite like the centre mount antenna, much better then the guard option that got snapped off when the first d*ckhead came along. Made the car look better balanced also.
I need to fit an aerial to mine and I'm still contemplating my options. Centre mount, pillar mount or internal.

I believe the Holden radio was a very expensive option; mine (Kwd ute) had a dealer-fitted "Clarion" AM/FM cassette with a roof ariel, which was still much cheaper...

[I've replaced the roof ariel with a sunvisor (getting old!!) & put the ariel under the console]

There is also a good chance that a factory radio was fitted to a van that was in stock to fill a customers needs. No doubt dealers traded new cars just as they do now to meet orders. The radio was fitted down the road by the local bloke. Aerial in roof as they were what looked best. The new owner was none the wiser. Just a thought.
It's probably not much harder to fit am aerial in the roof than the guard.
