That's a matter of opinion, I don't mind windows in the side of a van... There were as many, if not more vans with windows as there are without... A hell of a lot came from the factory with windows so obviously at the time they were popular.
i know I preferred windows in my vans back in the 80's, going down the Gold Coast with a few mates in the back and surfboards as well, they could see out for the perve through Surfers and I could see better for reverse parking. I did put very dark tint on my windows though which does improve the look and gave more privacy when getting changed in the back.
The custom guys preferred windowless.... Nice big blank canvas for murals... But a lot of custom vans weren't driven daily either...... Much like most restored vans today, weekend warriors only.
