First HZ vans were July 1977 and this included Sandmans, but volume production didn't start until near the end of the first week of September 1977 although there are a fair few HZ's (not necessarily vans or commercials) built starting in the last weeks of August 1977. The last HX's were finished in the first 2 weeks of September 1977 but most were finished by the end of the first week, many of these are 8/77 plated though probably as there were ADR revisions associated with the 1978 model year starting on 1/9/77.
Ok thanks for clearing that up byron im pretty sure mine is a 7/77 hz but im going to double check on the weekend
its been a while since i looked at the tags or the car
What do we say about the very early HZ's having the traditional Allen keyed horn cap?
I've never seen enough of them to make a judgement. Some early ones (like the 7/77 pilot cars) had HX colours (I think the yellow one in the HZ Sandman brochure is Absinth), some saw HZ colours introduced early (like the Palais white ute on the brochure). HZ front suspension geometry started in 6/77. So as you can see some stuff changed early, some didn't until the series changeover.
did any HX's get a RTS chassis?? in the change over period?
1976 HJ XX7 Sandman
Genuine VN SS manual atlas grey
HX LE Coupe project
im pretty sure it came out in the hx i had a hx caprice with rts
No HX had RTS. From 6/77 HX got HZ rails but that is only a part of RTS.
