    Speedo problems

I'm looking for some advise if any body can help. I have a HZ and the speedo doesn't work. I replaced the cable and it worked for about 5k's and stoped. What next? Can I check if the speedo its self has stoped working, if so how? How hard is it to get a yellow needle speedo for a HZ? Does any body have a speedo they will sell?

There are a lot of things it could be other than the Speedo head unit.
You have two gears in the gearbox. But ill fitting cable is a likely culprit. That's not to say that the speedo head unit is faulty but I would be looking at the whole thing (even the newly fitted cable).

If you want to test your Speedo, take it out and using a piece of speedo cable and a drill you can beach test it.

You can spin the speedo by hand at the back by sticking a pencil in it and twisting it,the gear on the gearbox cable is easy to check only one screw but most likely the one inside the box is stuffed if it worked for 5klms

Thank you all once again for the wisdom. I rang Applied Instruments as you suggesteted Vombil and they said the same thing Innuendo to check the head and new cable with a drill set in reverse. Ryobi 18v does 56km/h. So it seems the problem is in the gear box.Is there much involved there?

not if the drive on the speedo cable, yes if drive in the gearbox, ie remove the extension housing to get to it.
this will give you a rough idea.

Ryobi 18v does 56km/h! Ha ha! that's classic. everyone will be pulling out their speedo cables and seeing how quick their drills are now.
