There's one listed with "About Time Spares" near Newcastle that is a Kingswood Clock and has the wrong part number attached to it.
On top of that I've had nothing but bad to very bad dealings with him.

This 'model year' confusion has been going on for years.

In the US all new models are released in their Autumn (Fall) around September. Mid year models are released in Mar/April (like the 64 1/2 Mustang).

The GM model year begins on September 1, although this sometimes varies if a new model needs to be released earlier or later than this date, for production scheduling reasons.

What Byron is trying to get across is that HZ Sandmans produced between Sept 1 & Dec 31 in 1977, are considered by GM to be 1978 'Year Models'. Likewise those produced between Sept 1 & Dec 31 1978 are called 1979 models. The sixth letter in the VIN will tell which model year it is.

It's commonplace in modern cars to see things for example like, MY09 even when the car was actually built in 2008.

So we have to differentiate between the car's 'Model Year' (MY) & when it was actually built, they often differ.

Ok, so it looks like the Rego plates I put on my ute aren't quite right, it's a 78 Model, not a 77.

Well it is 1977 complianced! Technically though it is a 1978 model HZ. BUT here's another spanner: 1977 complianced HZ's seem to all have AHZ chassis numbers whereas 1978 complianced HZ's are BHZ, so there is another ADR change there around the start of 1978 that means 1977 complianced but 1978 model HZ's are a special little subset of HZ with more than one little oddity. Although this isn't uncommon either, early HQ, early HJ are also unique compared to the rest of the series. The truly unique cars though are always the pre-volume production examples built for brochures etc.
