next question, (and yes beigy is a WB), i have factory power steer and air con.... to use the same would mean different brackets etc wouldn't it? cos the mounting is different? can i use the 6 cyl components for 8 cyl or do these differ as well. Also assuming would need starter motor for an 8 and can't use the 6? Yeah a lot of questions and when I go shopping, i want to be informed so i know what i'm lookg for and at. Thanks heaps for help so far Greg.

ok maz,you can use your alternator but you need v8 bracket..you need v8 starter..you can use your power steer pump and lines and box but you will need a v8 power steering braket and crank pulley which is a 3 row for air as well..your a/c pump is ok and its associated lines etc but you need v8 brackets..when i say v8 brackets and pulleys i meen hq to wb not commodore...your a/c maz..is it a big arse harrison compressor which are black or is it a small sanden compressor which is silver/ally?..reason i ask is if it is the small one you need the bracketry from an 83/4 wb statesman that runs the small compressor..
Hi Greg, just checked under the bonnet. It's the small silver compressor. Thanks for your help so far. do I need to do anything to the brakes and/or suspension since it's a heavier engine? or is all that standard across the board? Was thinking about a large alternator since I'm running sound system, lighting and my headlights are now more powerful too. It'd have a standard 55amp, not sure how much higher to go.
maz, brakes are the same..best to change the front springs to v8...;)
i think the largest alternator you can get is 120..i think that will run everything and even a microwave for the popcorn....
