    Cool Side pipes....

So we had (are still having) fun with my "Tailgate Up" thread, so how about this one?

Does anyone run side pipes now?

Does anyone sell side pipes now?

Every cool van used to have some form of side pipe exhaust, Thrushpipes, Showtubes, Zoomies......

Where do you get them now? Maybe making some out of 4" stainless would be cool.

I'm putting a new (temporary) exhaust on my van on Monday, but would love BIG side pipes.

Was a set on locally (Dandenong) 4 into 1 Show tubes not that long ago.

Biggest issue, your car needs to sit like a 4x4 Overlander.

Yeah, well THAT'S not going to happen! I like loooooooowwwww.

I remember a lot of vans had side pipes and were pretty low, at least at the front. Come to think of it the old trend was low front and high rear, so that may have given enough clearance. I like low and level, so I may have an issue.....

    More thought required.....

There is a place in Melbourne that would do them up, but can't remember where now. This was about 4 years ago. Mate was going to get his WB done.

Yeah, I'm thinking I might knock a set up out of 4" mild steel just to work out where they would fit best and to make brackets etc..., then copy them in stainless once I'm happy with the look. I'm also thinking about having a joining flange at the front so I could fit a hotdog style muffler inside. That way there's no mufflers under the van, just the pipe from the extractors to the front of the sidepipe.

Reckon you will get a fair amount of un-wanted attention.

The lakepipes were great, remember them well from the 70's. They alway's sound fabulous, the way a V8 should.

great memories, my cousin Kyle bought a Hq van just before sandmans were made, he ordered it with L30, m21,3.08 lsd
salamanka red black trim, gts dash etc. unfortunatly when he picked it up he was informed they couldnt fit the 350
even though he ticked the sheet for it.

anyway he lowered it, fitted huge us racers and had the Doug Thorley side pipes on it, great 70's style
the vans gone but the pipes are still hanging in the shed.

The link is to Summit Racing, I tried to get them to send stuff here to Australia but they would not ship, Maybe they have changed their policy by now.
I have seen side pipes, Lakes etc at the Jeggs website.
