Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
Rodney either drilled, or the little holes were already there on our yellow van and it's a good idea to do this in my opinion

They look bloody terrible, and you get wet when the windows down, The small hole would help stop the drips whilst driving, yet still let the water drain when parked.
My one memory was being towed home in the rain, after buying my van (Flat towed with a rope..............it was the early 90's), with water running out of the 1/4 inch holes (OK I may be exaggerating, but they were big) onto me!
I would make sure its spotless and polished in that area first, then drip a drop or 2 of water and mark the spot for drilling.
You could put some down pipes on it and a tank in the back to catch the water. You might be able to subsides you rego with cheap drinking water?
I had a gutter less windowless van.. Quite often people didn't notice the gutters missing
