This is not correct. Under the old rules it was an offense to display expired labels or more than 1 label at a time. With the cessation of stickers, this no longer applies, you can display the last 10 years' stickers & those for the next 10 years, if you so desire. The exceptions are historic & large commercial vehicles that still require stickers.

The whole thing typical public servant stupidity at it's worst. The reasoning behind the abolition of the stickers is supposedly as a cost saving measure. How much saving ? The old sticker consisted of the top section of the A4 renewal that was posted to the registered owner every year. They now post the same A4 renewal without the sticker section at the top, saving say 20-30c. OK there are millions of registered owners out there, so that's 20-30c each, so the saving could be in the millions of $$. Unfortunately no, they now send a second reminder just in case the first one when astray, that's another A4 form, plus postage !! Even if they get a postage discount, the added cost has got to be 50-60c. So they spend 60c to save 30c, several million times per year. That sounds like my tax money is being well spent. No problem just increase the fines & it'll all be fixed.

We have had it over here for a few years . Works ok, govt saved $1.8 million per year.. But old number plates are gold now. Get an unlic car, put some plates on it and sell it as a licenced car from the local train station. Only way to check is if u have an iPhone and the dpi is up and working to confirm the rego...

So there is no cross reference between rego and body number?

Yeah the cost saving is a con job. I can't believe people can't see that. They have actually passed more cost on to the motorist as well. No matter how you look at it, it costs you money to access rego details on the net.
Your label matched your number plates. It's such a simple system that worked well. No label is a step backwards. Not forwards.

We didn't get a new plate system, all the plates remained as is.

Also, they might have claimed a saving of $1.8 million on the stickers, but the postal & admin sections of the dept. had a $2.5 million increase in costs but they don't communicate, so they can't see it.

I couldn't care whether it saved money or cost money. I'm just glad I don't have that poxy sticker on my windscreen anymore. Car looks much cleaner without it.
The cops scan the plates and it has to match the model and colour or your busted, so it's not really up to misrepresentation.

Yeah that sticker really did bugger the lines of a car up lol. Number plates are so much less obtrusive.

You wouldn't last five seconds in NSW with dodgy plates. It's the car that is licensed in NSW not simply the plates. Plates and car ID are tied together to form registration.
