Air Con.....

I bit the bullet and finally got the air con fixed today. It's factory fitted, but being a million years old it didn't work anymore and needed a new compressor and some seals, plus the obvious regas.

All that was going to run to about a grand and I've been tossing up whether to get it fixed or pull it off and free up some space in the engine bay (make it easier to get to the spark plugs). Since it's factory, I went for it and am really happy I did.

It blows REAL COLD! and is going to make it a lot more pleasant to drive over summer so I reckon it's money well spent.

good choice did you have to change any hoses? and what gas was used. ive heard the new gas needs stronger fittings and hoses

I am in the process of getting compressor and fitting etc rebuilt for a install in the Monaro after twenty years without, they have to install new seals to take the new gas.

My local Auto Electrician/Air Con bloke did it for me. He got me a new compressor, and changed a couple of seals and the oil, plus the re gas. I don't think he changed any hoses, it doesn't look like it. He pressure tested the system with nitrogen before re gassing it.

I'm happy with the job and if you're considering doing it, then DO IT! You won't regret it.

Of course the weather changed today and it's cold again!

If it hadn't been there I would have done without it, but since it was there I just had to fix it. And I'm glad I did.
