There are some silly rules that don't make sense for sure.
Surely as long as you don't increase the capacity of the motor when you fit a replacement, and don't put a big cam or carby on it, you've done the right thing!
It's stupid rules like this that make people break the law by replacing the engine with a later one, painting it red and stamping the old engine number on it.
You're trying to do the right thing and being penalised for it.....

Well, I have a 202 Blue fully recoed out of a 1/80 WB ready to go into my 5/79 HZ and to be honest, the only real difference between the red and blue is the top end.

I've even quietly considered restamping the blue and painting it because i can't get any answers from Qld transport.

I cant really see the issue with using a blue motor; its no more powerful, has better airflow (12 port head v 9 port) and is more fuel efficient (which, when last i checked was a good thing) but according to the transport depot "oh no, you cant have it, its a different colour so it must be a totally different motor"

You can run an engine on LPG without hardened valve seats, just make sure you use a lead replacement additive.
I highly doubt it would be class as a performance modification anyway.

mate while on your ps and using 202s if they die throw another one in and run it on unleaded they're worth nothing i flog second hand 202's to the hq racers $50 a pop, when i get a car to wreck/sell /fix up or drive around, i run them on unleaded, my tonner had a 202 that i run on unleaded for a year with no hassles until i put the v8 in same with the 161 in my panelvan (i didnt keep that in long) due to lack of power, if you want to use a blue one do it paint it red i doubt a cop will even look twice at a 6cyl unless its throwing out a heap of noise or your doing something wrong, at the end of the day though its a risk you will be taking i took the risk and got caught mine was a bit more obvious and in retrospect was bound to happen, i hate the restrictions placed on p-platers, it doesn't affect me anymore having been off them for a few years but its a bit over the top, i mean i had 6 hours driving before i got my licence, kids nowadays are having to do 120 hours massive tests etc, i hopped in the car drove around the corner parallel parked drove back and was done in less than 10min had a licence

    Yeah, those were the days!

I got my licence on Boxing day at a party with the local cop sitting beside me with a beer in his hand!

Living in the country and knowing everyone made life really simple for things like that.
