Very hard to register unless on straight gas or swap the chassis out for a HQ/J.

HQ Glacier White Belmont Ute
Wanted Lanspeed accessories for Holden Grey engines, twin carb manifolds, extractors, rocker cover, 3 speed floor shift.
It'd be a 2.6:1 if a WB Stato, but same outcome!
I'd put the 308 in and keep the 253, but I'd be tempted to go with the 4-speed if the van's already set up as a manual (pedals, clutch linkages, etc..).
I love manuals....you're never too old to change gears!
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
Yeah you are, I am!
That's a shame....I love 4-speeds, they just make me happy.

And thats all the more reason to do it!!! People are scared or turned off by the idea because they havent looked into it themselves!! My mate just got his 454 HZ Sandman on the road......and its not as drastic as everyone thinks. So a small block would be even easier. His is original chassis and isnt on LPG. It is possible and he has done it in a way that he can to return it to stock. I know what my HQ is going to get now![]()
I would go 308 T400 too.... But the chev is the top option if u want to get another wiring harness to carve up..
If it's a real Sandman leave it as original as possible. That's where the money is today and forever more.
If you have a desire to own a modified vehicle by a poverty pack and go to town where the intrinsic value isn't there.
The more you modify the Sandman the more value is lost. Where as, if you add power and comfort to a Belmont (etc) you are creating something with added desire and not the other way around.
This is all assuming that the Sandman isn't a basket case to start with.
It's only a days work to go from chev and T400 back to an original looking 253 , 4 speed...why not run the chev and have twice the HP ?
