    Angry My Van is Leaking!!!

For the 1st time since I've owned it, my van spent the night out in the weather last night.

And what a night it was! Howling wind and pouring rain all night and into today.

I checked the floor around lunchtime and there's a small amount of water on each side. I've sealed the plenum and checked it and it doesn't leak, but there's water getting in somewhere. It's not much, but enough to wet the carpet, so I can't have that.

Could it be the area in front of the plenum on each side where water sits (near the tags) where there's some body sealer on the joint?
It appears that the sealer on mine is a bit old and cracked.

wouldn't think so theres two plates of steel sandwiched together there, even without the sealer (mines been sandblasted off) its still watertight ive just had a look at mine it would be very hard to get any water through there, unless theres a rust hole below the cracked sealer, did you check the drain pipes? that there not blocked or split?

Drain pipes or a rust hole in the plenum chamber.

Drains are perfectly clean. I did them about a month ago when I re-sealed the plenum.

when you say resealed the plenum are you talking about around the fresh air ducts? the round hole in the plenum that those ducts screw into has a lipped edge and the duct goes through and sticks into the plenum it has a foam gasket that seals it all up, if theres no rust there it shouldn't leak it is common for rust to form around it especially around the screws that hold the duct up, if you use silicone to seal the duct it makes the rust worse and makes the leak worse (it is a short term fix)

I had the same thing happen to me, it was the door seals. Where the water was I thought it was from under the dash around the plenum or drains. Check your door seal.

It's not the door seals, it's definitely from above. On the passenger side there is a mark where it's run down the firewall (I painted the firewall and floor a few weeks back, so it's noticeable on the new paint). I can't trace it all the way because the air conditioning stuff is in the way.
On the drivers side it's almost nothing. I thought it just might have been some water soaking through from getting in and out with wet shoes on Monday, but it's just a bit too much for that.

So nobody reckons it's the joint in the engine bay near the tags? It just looks sus there with the cracked joint compound.

If there is a crack in the compound then the best way to check for leaks is to run water on the crack. Then check to see if the water is indeed coming from there. That's all I can think of.

have you had the windscreen out? take the stainless trims off around the windscreen and have a look its a lot easier if the screens out but if there are any holes in there which is common too then it will seep into the cab ive seen water basically run down the side and behind the kick panel if there is rust at the corner of the screen, id take the stainless off and maybe on the driver side look behind the kick panel it may be running down in there and thats why you cant see it on the firewall
