The reason you gave in the last sentence Jennie is one of the reasons I don't record where data comes from. Same reason I won't verify cars no matter how much incentive is thrown at me, i'll only tell enquirer what evidence exists on the plates to prove or disprove, and also normally i'll state for example "the ID plates were originally on a Sandman" or "it looks like a Sandman". As we all know there is much more to a Sandman than the ID plates, hence the stupidity of paying for ID plates alone. The other reason is that if the database gets compromised no-one will know where the ID of any particular car came from.
The best way to record that ID plates have been for sale is to stick the numbers and/or tag photo(s) on this site for all to see if they happen to search the numbers. You'd be amazed how many of the cars I have recorded, by doing a search on Google the numbers turn up on a forum somewhere.
