I give Aussie Rules its dues, the blokes playing must be super fit. Plus the game is setup to be a spectator sport, not a TV sport hence big crowds creating great atmosphere leading to the misconception it is more popular than other codes. I went to see one game live at the MCG a few years back, back in whatever year the Grand Final was a draw too (Swans V St Kilda maybe?). The game I saw was Collingwood V Melbourne, and it too was a draw. Atmosphere was great and it was the best thing about the whole game. Fans were really into it, but when it was a draw everyone was depressed except for those that were drunk so they were happy! To be frank the game went too long and bored me a bit, watching the fans was much better!
I've also been to some awful League games, but some crackers too. I was at the Grand Final qualifier in 2000 when the underdog Roosters beat the Knights to progress to the Grand Final. What a great game, but the Grand Final sucked (boring, 12-0, Broncos won after 2 x Roosters dropped balls). In 2010 the Qualifying Final between Roosters and Tigers was the best game of League I ever saw, and it was on TV. A draw at full time and the Roosters finally scored to win after about an extra 20 minutes. I went to the Grand Final that year to see the Roosters play St George and it was an awful game, it rained in the second half. The Knights V Paramatta Grand Final in 2001 was probably the best half of League I ever saw, Knights were unbelieveable in the first half. My point is the game can be as good on TV as it is live, I doubt that would be the case for a cracker of an AFL game.
