There are luckier folk out there than me.

I blew a fuse in the Sonata last night, and while I'm not a mechanic, fuses are fairly straight forward. I checked every fuse I could find and they were all fine so I couldn't fix it. All good except the fuse ran the GPS and Phone charger, I was headed to Melbourne to pick up a top tail gate.
I managed to get there and back to a highway servo where I noticed the local RACV bloke in the car park. I wandered over, told him my plight and he came over and fixed me up quickly and free of charge.
Turns out he just purchased an HJ Windowless Sandman Van AND an HX LE Monaro. Monaro doesn't have original motor though. It has an L34 out of a Bathurst Torana... I'm not sure as he lost me a little with numbers and what have you. His info was a little scattered, he thought the Monaro was an HQ but he said original maroon paint and gold honeycomb rims. Along with what he thought was an LS on badge or sticker. I figure it's an HX LE?
A 'friend of a friend' said there are some cars here, Grandfather passed away, had stored them for years... He paid $5,000 on the spot and took them home on a truck. Sandman needed tranny fluid.
Who has this mad, terrific luck..?

In the right place at the right time. Never seems to happen to me. I'm the opposite I'm in the wrong places at the wrong times.

Well I stumbled across my van on a trip to the tip lol Walked in had a talk to the owner and did a deal on the spot, he delivered it 20mins later and I gave him a 5poster bulbar as a swap for the van as it sat, including everything in it haha
I guess you could call that luck?
    Cheers,
    Matt

I dunno, I've met a lot of car people that have some interesting "stories" about their finds. I think a few of them are just that. A guy working road service sounds like the perfect candidate for a little truth embellishment.

Haha you have people come and offer you stuff?? I drive the WB everywhere, and all I get is old blokes wanting to talk about their old ute like mine, except theirs was a lot quieter

I did run into a bunch of NOS and new parts a while ago, spent $400, and worked it out I paid something like $16.50 per piece in the bulk lot... Its all stashed away now haha

But it sort of comes down to the right place, right time...
    Cheers,
    Matt

    I guess I qualify...

I never seem to be in the right place/time, but I was real lucky when it came to getting my van a few months back.

I'd been looking for a good van for the past 10 years and all the local blokes with nice cars knew it, but vans are pretty rare down my way. A few months back a mate called me and said he'd heard about a windowless van in good condition and gave be a number to call. I rang it and an old bloke answered and I asked him if he had a van for sale. He had a van, but it wasn't advertised for sale. I talked to him for a while and he mentioned he'd had it since new, it had never been in an accident and had almost no rust..........

I asked him if he'd consider selling it and he told me to drop - in and have a look at it. It was only an hour away, so the wife and I jumped in her car and floored it!
We got there and it was under a carport and looked pretty good, a bit of light surface rust and a bit in the door bottoms, but it was pretty good. I opened the bonnet and there sat a 253 with air-con and still looked like the day it was put in. I got in the front and pulled out the ashtray and it was brand new...never been ashed in. The original purchase documents and handbook and service receipts were in the glovebox, along with the 1st two rego papers.

I started it up and it just sat and idled, revved clean, odometer said 218,000ish kms and that agreed with the service papers.

    I REALLY wanted this van!

So I asked him if he'd sell it and he said he would, but he wasn't going to give it away...... he'd like to get $3,000.00 for it!

And the rest is history, it's lived up to it's reputation and I was finally in the right place at the right time.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

I reckon good deeds can bring good luck.

It seems as though it was nice of the RACV dude to help you out free of charge... perhaps thats the sort of thing that brings good cosmic energy!

I remember over 10 years ago looking at a 1965 Chev pillared 4 door, no motor, pretty tidy in primer going for $3000. At the time between jobs and no money. Had a good yarn to the seller who was a decent bloke and said I would try to sort something out. Rang me back a couple of days later and said I could have it for $1500 as he wanted it gone. Couldn't convince the wife to eat baked beans for the next fortnight though so had to let it slide by. Sometimes right place, wrong time.
