    stolen ducato van

Hi all , a few weeks ago ( 6 ) my work van was stolen from my depot! After 3 weeks the insurance company paid me out as the van wasnt found . On theforth week the police rang me and said they found it in adelaide and I would have to collect it, I explained to them I was no longer the owner and I rang the insurance company and informed them the news. I also told them that I still hadnt recieved any money from them as of yet and as the van was right there in front of me and wasnt damaged that I would return their money when I get it and ill just keep my van! Not that simple!!!
I was told I would have to buy the van back of them , so I agreed. They then told me I hadto wait for an accessor to value the van . 2 weeks later a price was agreed and I said I would buy it, when I went to the salvage yard to make sureno further damage had accured in the yard the chap there after I had said to him I was very glad that I was getting my van back, said to me that I could NEVER rego it again cos ithadbeen written off! There is no damage to the van at all and it seems stupid to me thati cant over turn that decision, or can I? Has anyone got any idea about this ridiculous situation?

It all depends if it has been declared a statuary write off or a repairable write off. If it's a repairable write off it's fairly easy to re register.

Pretty sure in NSW there aren't any repairable writeoffs anymore. If its damaged or stolen its parts only. Not sure for other states. Supposed to stop rebirthing apparently.

Take the money and buy a new van. Just cause it doesn't look damaged doesn't mean there isn't internal damage. 3 weeks is plenty of time to stuff things up.

If its a stat write off its done and dusted. Let the insurance company keep it.
