    Ok, here's a question
how do you fit it when the steering wheel and main shaft want to come out of the steering column on a column shift auto WB?

Not too sure what you mean.... The steering shaft is coming out of the column with the wheel still firmly attached?

If that's the case you've got one of a couple of issues: The top part of the colapsable shaft has come adrift or the top bearing has come adrift and/or the lower part of the steering shaft is no longer firmly attached to anything. That is from the info you've given, is the spring and circlip in place at the top of the steering shaft just below the splines?

Could you give a bit more info, possibly a photo as well?

    Dave.

sounds like the top bearing has broken the die cast in the pot that holds it in....which meens you will need to replace the top pot..

Old thread i know but i am the stage of putting my column back in the Torana, some great information about the column and pulling it apart, wish i had found it earlier when i did pull mine to bits.

This is also another thread linked to this one. http://www.mysandman.com.au/forums/s...eering-columns

Is the HQ/J coffeepot the same as the LH Torana manual and if so has anyone got a good pot they would like to part with, the bearing in mine has
been pulled out at some stage by a previous owner and the boss has been flogged out bit so it has a bit of play.

    Hi Everyone,

I just removed my top pot because my Steering Wheel don't go home all the way (indicators wouldn't auto cancel) and I could pull the wheel up slightly.

On inspection the top bearing looks fine, I have a bearing Kit from RARES to replace it all with.

    A couple of questions.

    1. Where else do I look for symptoms as to why the wheel pulls up about 1/4 of an inch?

    2. I removed the ignition rod at the top pot first (probably should have done it at the ignition switch. Is it easier to re assemble if I undo the rod at the bottom ?

    3. When putting the new bearing in, do I do this before reinstalling the top pot (I can imagine it requires a bit of tapping to get into place, cant image I should do this when on the column ?

    4. I have read the bearing should be glued into place ? (any recommendations )

    5. Is there an idiots guide to re assembly?

    Thanks for your help
