I just got the AM radio in my Valiant wagon running after being inspired by this thread and have found that there is only one station on the whole dial that broadcasts in AM. And it's the ABC! I'm in the country and there may be more city stations, but why on earth would you want to have an AM radio when there are so many options? I am putting a CD player in it VERY soon.

I'm all OK with originality, but you have to drive your van and having decent music coming out of something like stereo speakers is a minimum requirement.

At least consider an AM/FM cassette player, then you have some options.

Unless you are building a van that will be sitting in a museum or used as a concourse judging example, then put a decent sound system in it and enjoy your van......

That is true, however you could have both like a CD player under the seat so you can still play music ect and still have the original look in the dash

You can buy new twin stick radios with all the modern features to save butchering your dash. Didn't everyone pull the AM radio out and put a tape deck in when they were new anyway?

I would say so James, radios were not standard, so I fitted a state of the art radio cassette player straight up.

I'm with wbute I'd stick a new twin stick in it you can have all radio as well as iPod control on some don't know how original they look but at least your not cutting up your dash driving around with no tunes or none you want to hear would be painfull

I ended up getting the 4ohm single speaker. Came with the bracket to just screw in. Found out that it was 4ohm surprisingly being a 40 yr old radio

I hope it works for you better than my Valiant. Mine sounds like there's an old man inside a 44 gallon drum jammed under the dash mumbling to himself!

No speaker can sound any good under a dash when it does not have any sort of speaker box to give it any depth. Like an acoustic guitar with only the strings on a flat board.

Exactly... we all like good sounds, whatever our preference, but a single speaker under the dash is like fitting cross-ply tyres. Primitive.

Hey just installed the speaker. Sounds great, as good as it gets for a AM radio anyway. Gts warehouse off eBay sell most types with the bracket. Very helpful
