Oh, and P.S. if you are using the original radio, you need to make sure that the impedance of the new speaker matches it. That is; the impedance (in ohms - abreviated with an omega symbol) should be the same as the original speaker, dunno what they were off hand, cant find out at this time of night (lol) the radio may have a lable on its output giving min ohms, maybe.

The more modern stuff is typically 4 ohms but it is not true of all car speakers. Early Holdens are 15 ohms, so always check.

Here is an option for you.

Nice find Innuendo, I didnt realise these were available in Australia. I had seen similar online avail in the US for old Chevs etc. They look like a good unit.
I'm interested to know how it sounds Matt!

Incidentally, and without meaning to seem shamelessly commercial, it happens that I actually have a retail quantity of high power car amplifiers, subwoofers, 6 x 9s and 6.5 speakers which I need to do something about selling at some stage. These are all made in China, but its the best gear China produces in this area, seriously good frequency response characteristics, big power etc.

I had intended when I purchased them, to set up an e-business, but the problem I had with selling them was legal liability. When they arrived I realised the magnets are big enough in the 6 x 9 and 6.5 drivers that the weight of the speakers could cause injury to passengers in a fast stop driving situation if not securely mounted and went flying across the cabin. I also had to know that a purchaser would (for instance) securely mount a subwoofer, or (for instance) correctly wire an amp so as not to overload the cars electrical system - as the importer I can (technically) be liable for any damage... and injury....!!

So, not having the legal protection of a corporation (and not wanting any purchaser to cause injury to themselves) I just shelved the project (and the stock).

I have been considering for a while making them available on auto enthusiast websites, its all great gear, just needs to be properly installed by somebody who knows what they are doing, not just any kid with big eyes for sound gear buying off evil bay.

Anyway, it's not the right gear for the purposes of this thread (re-installing the original radio and speaker) but in terms of an alternate system, these things really produce the goods, I have four types of mosfet amps all genuinely around 240 RMS continuous, bridgeable , 4 channel, 5 channel (one ch for the sub) can be daisy chained, remote power on/off, adjustable HP or LP filter etc. They pull around 30A though....! 6x9s genuine 60 RMS continuous.

If anyone is interested I'll start another thread in the for sale section. But this is pretty high power gear, it needs proper installation and correctly fused direct off the battery, etc.
