Personally I feel all HZ XU3 would have had 92001123.

Jason (StickThis) does the reproductions and quick search bought a page of his listing his knowledge on tyre placards.

Contact him and see if he has any idea on the early HZ XU3.
I'll elaborate later when Jason gets here to spell out why I had this gut feeling. I tend to agree with you but evidence does get you thinking.

Rodney and Jennie's HZ van was painted Absinth yellow, had black trim and a 308 auto in it. It is a Jasmine Yellow van with Tan trim and L32 M20 on the tags, early HZ so 1950kg gvm. We did some digging around the sills, doors etc and found black paint in those areas.... Further digging showed Jasmine yellow paint under the black so we were down to the original paint with blackouts painted over it... Rod took photos of this as proof it is a Sandman.

no point system really works, it is a matter of going over the car with a fine tooth comb and getting as much evidence of a Sandman as possible and documenting that evidence. Unfortunately in your case, the different coloured quad headlight front and different coloured glovebox lid with Statesman placard hinders more than helps.
What if the vehicle identification certificate in the owner logbook has written 'Sandman Panel Van' but all the other information you have makes it a could be.

i feel your pain wombat!l. i looked at an HZ where tags suggest sandman. dealer model was belmont. i looked further and twin light harness was incorrect, no foot well light and rad support was a single headlight butchered to take twin. it had GTS dash but you could tell it was thrown in there at some point. colour was a pop sandman one etc etc. trim was late HZ/commodore brown colour. I could have easily have justified it in my head but my gut was saying walk away. The crook selling it was marketing as a sandman but he was super shady. in the end, im glad i passed it up because for me i'd rather not own one than own a big 'maybe'. Ive got two HX with 18V. not much dispute there and for that reason i believe will hold $$ well and are cars worth restoring and holding onto for a bit

??????? Huh, what are you asking? Is it a Sandman? Unless the model is 8WN70 and the dealer has pulled a swifty then I'd say it's a Sandman.

Stripes are factory fitted on HX-HZ. You could as an option (DL7) order without but you had to pay $60 to delete them! ($60 was a fair bit of cash)
HQ and HJ stripes were indeed dealer fitted only.

Hand written? Means very little without supporting documents. Could be done after the fact. Or the dealer (like a lot of people) called Panel Vans with options "Sandman's".

I hear what you are saying vombil and I bought it as a maybe, at the price will be worth the shot. I just havent looked too far into it yet to I believe say it is or it isnt. I have found the footwell lights and traced them back to the harness and they are not spliced in and had a look at the light harness and seems the same. Working hard on replacing the roof in the 73 308 HQ van so been sworn to not touch the HZ till the HQ is in primer.
You state the point I am trying to make exactly, you bought 18v so as to be sure it is a sandman, if it wasnt it would be a big maybe.
Unless it has those unique sandman indicators it will always be a 95%-99% thing.

Hi WOmbat, 2200 kgs and Non 18V trim is HZ is a big question mark on a HZ sandman.
    you will need more info.
forget about tyre placards.. that's just 4 to take off or order one from Jason..

just really need something substantial to hang your hat on like a dealer delivery document..or broadcast sheet.

have a look at the spare wheel winch, that's probably the most reliable physical body indicator.

    Hi Adam
I agree I need more info.
I think this all started because I asked what the right placard number was. The only reason I asked was, I found that glove box on fleabay, had the right part number, seemed the right colour and I thought, hey IF the van is an XU3, kill two birds, that is all. It wasn't until I thought about it that I realised that it may appear I am trying to create something that it may not be.
That was not what I intended.
I know that I will need something substantial to confirm this, I will try to chase this info when I start the resto.

I'd say this is the right placard for your Van assuming it is an XU3 Sandman. Also be aware that it is also correct for a 14.5cwt WB. So the lid may in fact be from a WB.
