"All correspondence must bear these numbers"
I'm talking about the tyre placard in this case. I also didn't see any picture of the face of the glovebox so I have no idea what grain it had.
That is just a stupid analogy, why 10 years and what decade of the 3+ since built? Let's face it most have been raped and had all kinds of swaps over the years. That's like saying just because it's got a rubber stripped front bar and it been on there for the last 10 years it must be from factory!
Thanks for all the help guys and hopefully when I get into it I will find what I need to confirm it is an xu3.
At present I am away at work so I cant even slide under and have a look at the spare winch. I will see when I get home.
Hopefully it is there, to be honest I never checked when I brought the car.
If it is not well... it is still a matching numbers van in a rarer colour.
got 5 mins and had a look around the door found this

and around the front screen

spare winder there but wire snapped off, so no luck there
But NOT saying it is proof, just saying found some black there.
Funny thing is once a car like this is restored any original evidence of it being a sandman are gone. I suppose that's why XX7 on the plates adds value. I think in years to come that Sandmans without some proof on id plates like XX7 or 18v trim on some will make them very hard to sell.
I am just thankful that my HX has 18V trim, without that it would only be a Holden ute with 253 and 4 speed. I know that the chassis is original, but I have no idea if the body is the original and as I bought it as basically a rolling shell, I will never be able to prove that it is original. Not that I really care as I don't intend to sell it anyway!
HQ Glacier White Belmont Ute
Wanted Lanspeed accessories for Holden Grey engines, twin carb manifolds, extractors, rocker cover, 3 speed floor shift.
Which is why you want to photograph all evidence you can find of it being a Sandman before starting the restoration.
