i feel your pain wombat!l. i looked at an HZ where tags suggest sandman. dealer model was belmont. i looked further and twin light harness was incorrect, no foot well light and rad support was a single headlight butchered to take twin. it had GTS dash but you could tell it was thrown in there at some point. colour was a pop sandman one etc etc. trim was late HZ/commodore brown colour. I could have easily have justified it in my head but my gut was saying walk away. The crook selling it was marketing as a sandman but he was super shady. in the end, im glad i passed it up because for me i'd rather not own one than own a big 'maybe'. Ive got two HX with 18V. not much dispute there and for that reason i believe will hold $$ well and are cars worth restoring and holding onto for a bit

I hear what you are saying vombil and I bought it as a maybe, at the price will be worth the shot. I just havent looked too far into it yet to I believe say it is or it isnt. I have found the footwell lights and traced them back to the harness and they are not spliced in and had a look at the light harness and seems the same. Working hard on replacing the roof in the 73 308 HQ van so been sworn to not touch the HZ till the HQ is in primer.
You state the point I am trying to make exactly, you bought 18v so as to be sure it is a sandman, if it wasnt it would be a big maybe.
Unless it has those unique sandman indicators it will always be a 95%-99% thing.
Hi WOmbat, 2200 kgs and Non 18V trim is HZ is a big question mark on a HZ sandman.
you will need more info.
forget about tyre placards.. that's just 4 to take off or order one from Jason..
just really need something substantial to hang your hat on like a dealer delivery document..or broadcast sheet.
have a look at the spare wheel winch, that's probably the most reliable physical body indicator.

"All correspondence must bear these numbers"
Hi Adam
I agree I need more info.
I think this all started because I asked what the right placard number was. The only reason I asked was, I found that glove box on fleabay, had the right part number, seemed the right colour and I thought, hey IF the van is an XU3, kill two birds, that is all. It wasn't until I thought about it that I realised that it may appear I am trying to create something that it may not be.
That was not what I intended.
I know that I will need something substantial to confirm this, I will try to chase this info when I start the resto.
