That's half the problem. The other half is the studs fling through the air and going through someone's windscreen. You don't undo metric nuts with an imperial spanner. You don't put metric wheels on a imperial stud pattern.
But.... Why did they change them anyway? Tyres and wheels are still measured in imperial.
