HQ sandman brochure says 3.08 rear axle standard with 253 (ie if no code present on tag this is what it should have) 3.36 optional on 253 and would then have axle code for that listed on tag if it had it.

3.36 was listed as performance option for 253 in the literature I have. Looks like we have another ute like mine, can never really prove its heritage, but what a lovely package anyway.

That was a good score. I hope you restore it the way it deserves. Love seeing HQ Sandman's Ute's or Van's.

ive owned this ute for four years,i purchased it originally to built a sandman replica as i am self employed and always in a hurry i stuck it in my shed and never checked the vin details ,so i thought ill probably never get around to workin on it, i was having a bit of a dull day and thought bugger it ill flog it on ebay, second day on ebay to my surprise i had 320 views and 82 whatchers, third day to my surprise a bloke rang me and told me to jump on monaro parts and check out sandman page ,so i did ,worked out i had a kingswood sandmand i took off ebay imediatly and rang this bloke back and thanked him .i had no idea what i was sitting on i just didnt think they existed any more,at some stage someone has changed this ute not for the better, repainted body, changed grill, recovered seats and door trims, centre console gone and hacked off console bracket and wacked in new carpet, painted over blackouts, witch i have found under burgundy paint,i bought it off ebay ,was listed as hq ute with gts dash,so fella selling it had no idea either which was surprising as he had acreage with quite a few holdens on it and had a bit of knowledge on holdens but wasnt interested in utes.ive learnt always check your tags because you just never know!

Can't wait to have a catch up and compare day when both our vehicles are on the road and fully functional.

HQ consoles were not popular, many were removed and either replaced to Hj,X or Z consoles or were just left as carpet/floorcovering
