Hi Guys,

I'm putting the question out there of what is the best Sandman still around?

The one everyone goes that is hands down the best of the best.

What one has the best documentation to go along with it?

I would say the most known would have to be Alley Cat .

I would imagine that a Sandman in original condition with low kms a one owner perhaps with desireable drive line , colour etc and documentation if such vehicle does exist in between HQ to HZ would be hard to beat even against a beautifully restore one. I am not sure if Alley Cat started life as a Sandman? it is certainly a well known custom van along with a couple of others from the 80's.

I think the question being asked is:

What is the best restored or survivor Sandman in the world.
Meaning an original Sandman that is classed as the pinnacle. The one everybody aspires to be as good as or wants to own the most. The Sandman that is used as the reference for it's model and can/is being used as a guide for the restoration of others.

Second to that: What books and documentation does it have?

What Blocker says, Suggesting a country wide "Sandman off" is exactly the way to find the best of the best. Not unlike a Sandman National Titles.

I guess the question is raised because it comes across as most Sandman's are bitza's and made up from many, without factory books and documented history.
That's not to say they are not Genuine Sandman's but most are far from "original".

I am not sure if Alley Cat started life as a Sandman? it is certainly a well known custom van along with a couple of others from the 80's.

Alley Cat is 100% Sandman, XX7 Tagged and sold originally without stripes. But hardly original and would never be used as a reference Sandman.

It'd come down to individual preference in the end. If you had two identical condition and engine vehicles in the following circumstances which is the best?

1. Ute V van. It has to be a ute for me, but plenty barrack for the other team.
2. L31 M21 V L31 M41. To me it is the higher optioned vehicle, most M41 seem to have air and steer too.

If I could find the car in mint cond in one of the following it would get my vote:

HQ Kingswood ute XX7 in Tuxedo or Sable with 32E trim.
HJ Kingswood ute XU3 or XX7 in Tuxedo or Satin Mist with 65A trim.

It'd be hard to knock back an Orchid or Saffron HQ though.

Hence why I stated it could come down to individual preference! I get the question, I was just staing if I could find one of those utes it'd get my vote, but I doubt one still exists.
