It's not a texture coat, it looks like a straight paint and is applied quite thick. In standard vans with no headlining you will often see runs in it in the roof area if they are still in original paint. Back in the eighties a lot of car yards spruced up the rear of vans for sale by painting them in a grey colourflek which has a textured appearance.

Utes were painted body colour in the rear..... All Sandman vans from Hq to HZ were painted grey Vynacote in the rear from factory.... What has happened to them over the past 30-40 years can be hard to tell sometimes..... Even WB vans were grey Vynacote.

Sean, my Melbourne build 3/1975 ute is grey vynacote in the tub from new. My understanding is that it seems to be model/plant dependent on HJ? I've also seen other HJ utes with it and also without it. All of the ordering spec info that I have for my ute (we've got everything else bar the production line sheet, which I would have dearly loved to find but it wasn't to be seen when I pulled it all apart) doesn't specify if vynacote was to be applied to it but looking at the way it had worn and flaked on the sides and bed of the tub area there is most definately no exterior coloured paint under it on the floor of the tub.
    Nunc est bibendum...

I thought Kingswood Utes were body colour in the tub and Belmont/holden ones were the Vynacote. All panelvans I have seen were Vynacote.

Thanks mr.jones, I'll get him to give it a go and see what comes up. I will still get him to scan one of my inside access panels and compare the two.

Early W utes and vans have 2 x different rear finishes listed, for Kingswood utes and all Belmonts (which may mean wagon too):

    "Colourflek" Astro Grey 611-14224 or
    Grey Vynacote 599-15160.

I have the formula for 599-15160:

    Tinter - Setting
    34178 - 0
    11999 - 80
    00740 - 158
    05440 - 165
    00744 - 168
    01012 - 500

My 84 ute is body colour in the back. It's a Kingswood. It's original.
